Overview

The Acute TravelBus TB3000 series represents the latest generation of portable logic analyzers, specifically engineered for automotive and automation industry applications. This 2-in-1 analyzer seamlessly switches between Logic Analyzer and Protocol Analyzer modes, providing unprecedented flexibility for embedded system debugging.

Available in three variants: TB3016F (basic I²C/SPI analysis), TB3016E (extended protocol support), and TB3016B (full differential signal capability with CAN/RS485 isolation).

The analyzer connects via USB 3.0 for both power and high-speed data transfer, eliminating the need for external power supplies. Its compact 96×74×24mm form factor makes it ideal for field testing and benchtop debugging. Stack with TravelScope oscilloscopes to create comprehensive mixed-signal analysis solutions.

Unlike traditional logic analyzers with limited onboard memory, the TB3000 utilises PC RAM for virtually unlimited capture depth, perfect for long-term protocol logging and intermittent fault detection. The intuitive software provides real-time waveform display and automatic protocol recognition for rapid setup.

Questions and Answers

10 questions
  • What Software Do I Need and Is It Included?

You need the TBA (TravelBus series) software, downloadable from Acute's website. It runs on Windows 7/8/10/11 (64-bit) and has logic analyser and protocol analyser modes, waveform display, automatic signal-frequency detection and CSV/TXT export.

  • Can I Use This Analyser for 3.3V and 5V Logic Levels?

Yes. The threshold can be set from -6V to +6V in 50mV steps, so it can be set for 1.8V, 3.3V and 5V logic. Threshold accuracy is ±100mV + 5% of the set voltage.

  • How Does the TB3000 Compare to Saleae Logic Analysers?

Saleae analysers have single-ended inputs only, while the TB3016B adds isolated differential CAN inputs. The TB3000 decodes 70+ protocols, against Saleae's 25+. Saleae's software is more polished, so compare both on the protocols you need.

  • What Accessories Are Included with the TB3000?

    Each TB3000 includes:

    • analyser module
    • USB 3.0 cable
    • 24-pin lead cable
    • micro-gripper hooks (5, 10 or 20 depending on model)

The TB3016B also includes terminal blocks and D-Sub connectors for differential signals. Software and manuals are downloaded from Acute's website.

  • Can I Develop Custom Protocol Decoders?

The TB3000 software has a built-in library of 70+ protocols. For protocols not in it, capture in logic analyser mode and post-process the exported data, or contact Acute Technology about custom development.

  • What Protocols Can the TB3000 Series Decode?

All TB3000 models decode over 70 protocols, including I²C, SPI, UART, CAN 2.0/CAN FD, RS485, LIN, USB PD, DALI and many automotive and industrial standards. The real-time protocol analyser and trigger modules differ by model:

    • TB3016F: I²C, MIPI I3C, SPI and UART
    • TB3016E: adds HID over I²C, I²S, LIN 2.2, MDIO, PMBus, SMBus and USB 1.1
    • TB3016B: adds isolated differential inputs, including CAN
Answered by John LeggUpdated 8 Oct 2026
  • Can I Capture CAN Bus Signals Directly Without External Transceivers?

Yes, with the TB3016B. Its dedicated differential CAN inputs have 1000Vrms isolation and capture CAN2.0B and CAN-FD signals up to 10 Mbps directly, with no external transceivers or differential probes.

Answered by John LeggUpdated 8 Oct 2026
  • How Much Memory Is Available for Signal Capture?

The TB3000 uses your PC's RAM as capture memory over USB 3.0, so capture depth is limited by the RAM available; capture stops when memory is full. This suits long protocol logging and intermittent fault detection.

Answered by John LeggUpdated 8 Oct 2026
  • What Is the Maximum Signal Frequency I Can Reliably Capture?

The TB3016F samples at up to 800MHz for timing analysis with 8 channels (400MHz with 16), but because of the data transmission limit it measures signals up to 50MHz. That covers I²C and CAN comfortably; check the clock rate for fast SPI.

Answered by John LeggUpdated 8 Oct 2026
  • Is the TB3000 Compatible with Existing Oscilloscopes?

Yes, on the TB3016B. It stacks with oscilloscopes including Acute TravelScope, LeCroy, Keysight, Tektronix, GW Instek, HAMEG and R&S, giving mixed-signal oscilloscope (MSO) capability with time-aligned analogue and digital signals in logic analyser mode.
