Overview
The TC2030-CIC-FT232H Chip-in-Connector puts an FTDI FT232H Hi-Speed USB-to-serial converter inside the 6-pin TC2030 connector housing. It plugs straight onto the TC2030 Plug-of-Nails footprint on your board and connects to the PC with any USB-C data cable, replacing the long, unshielded lead of a traditional FTDI cable. A USB-C cable is included.
The FT232H runs USB 2.0 Hi-Speed (480 Mbps) and supports UART at up to 12 Mbaud, and SPI, I²C and JTAG at up to 30 Mbps through FTDI's MPSSE engine, so one part covers serial consoles, bootloaders, flash programming and production test. Status indicator lights show activity.
Choose the version that matches your board:
- Legs: legged versions latch into the footprint with leg clips; no-legs (NL) versions need a smaller footprint and are held in place.
- VCC: 3.3 V or 5 V on pin 1, up to 250 mA continuous and 500 mA peak. Signal outputs are 3.3 V on both; inputs are 5 V tolerant.
- Pin 2: CTS versions carry CTS (or TMS for JTAG). DTR versions put DTR on pin 2, support UART only and suit bootloader control.

Questions and Answers
-
Which Interfaces Does the Chip-in-Connector Support?
UART at up to 12 Mbaud on all versions. The CTS versions also support SPI, I²C and JTAG at up to 30 Mbps through the FT232H MPSSE engine. DTR versions support UART only.
-
Are the Signals 5 V on the 5V Versions?
No. On both the 3V3 and 5V versions all signal outputs are 3.3 V logic and inputs are 3.3 V logic, 5 V tolerant. The version sets the VCC supply on pin 1, which provides up to 250 mA continuous and 500 mA peak.
-
When Should I Choose a DTR Version?
When your target's serial bootloader is controlled by DTR. DTR versions put DTR on pin 2 instead of CTS and support UART only.
-
Is a USB Cable Included?
Yes. A USB-C cable is supplied with the Chip-in-Connector, and any standard USB-C data cable also works.
-
Legged or No-Legs?
Legged versions have leg clips that latch into the TC2030 footprint. No-legs (NL) versions need a smaller footprint and are held in place by hand for a quick job, or by the TC2030-CLIP retainer or a fixture for longer work.
