  • What Is the SEGGER USB Hub (5.01.10) and What Makes It Different From Standard Consumer USB Hubs?

The SEGGER USB Hub (5.01.10) is an industrial-grade, seven-port USB 2.0 full-speed hub designed for production use. Unlike consumer hubs, it has:

    • Upstream port isolation (3kV DC for 1 second)
    • Overload protection on each downstream port
    • High retention USB-B upstream and USB-A downstream ports
    • Testing to EN 61326-1, EN 55011 and EN 55024/55035

It is intended for gang programming with SEGGER Flasher Compact units.

  • How Does the SEGGER USB Hub's Electrical Isolation Feature Protect My Equipment and Personnel?

The upstream port has basic isolation rated at 3kV DC for 1 second. This protects connected equipment and users from ground loops, spikes and transient overvoltages common in industrial environments, and helps prevent damage to development tools and host computers.

It is basic isolation only and is not suitable for hazardous voltage applications without additional protection.

Answered by John LeggUpdated 6 Aug 2025
  • What Power Requirements Does the SEGGER USB Hub Have and How Does This Compare to Typical Consumer Hubs?

The SEGGER USB Hub runs from 8-30 VDC with reverse polarity protection, and draws up to 30W. Typical consumer USB hubs need 5V DC. For maximum load, use an input supply of 12 VDC or higher.

The screw-terminal power plug takes solid or stranded wire from 0.2-3.3 mm², for secure connections where there is vibration.

Answered by John LeggUpdated 6 Aug 2025
  • Can the SEGGER USB Hub Be Used with non-SEGGER Devices, or Is It Exclusively for SEGGER Products?

Yes. It is optimised for SEGGER Flasher Compact units in gang programming setups, but SEGGER states it can also be used with other SEGGER products such as J-Link debug probes, and with third-party USB devices.

SEGGER recommends it over generic hubs because it is production-grade, tested and electrically isolated.

  • How Does the SEGGER USB Hub Enhance Gang Programming Performance Compared to Using Multiple Standard USB Hubs?

The SEGGER USB Hub supports up to 24 Flasher Compact units when used with a Flasher Hub-4 or Flasher Hub-12.

Short USB connections between the hub and the Flasher Compacts improve signal quality and programming reliability. Consumer hubs may not be fully USB-compliant or may lack adequate power, while the SEGGER hub gives consistent performance across all ports at once. Its isolation helps prevent programming errors and equipment damage.

Answered by John LeggUpdated 6 Aug 2025
  • What High Retention Connector Features Distinguish the SEGGER USB Hub From Standard USB Hubs?
The hub has high retention USB-B upstream and USB-A downstream ports. They need more force to disconnect than standard USB ports, so vibration, cable movement or accidental contact is less likely to interrupt a programming run.
Answered by John LeggUpdated 6 Aug 2025
  • How Does the SEGGER USB Hub's Compliance with Industrial Standards Benefit Users in Production Environments?

The hub is tested to EN 61326-1, EN 55011 and EN 55024/55035. These standards cover electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and electrical safety for measurement, control and laboratory equipment.

In practice, the hub won't generate interference that affects sensitive equipment, and isn't easily disturbed by EMI from nearby machinery. This reduces interference-related downtime and helps you meet regulatory requirements in manufacturing.
