Xeltek SuperPro ISP Programming Adapter

The Xeltek ISP Header 01 (ISPHEADER01) is an ISP programming adapter that turns the ZIP socket of selected Xeltek socket-based programmers into a 10-wire, colour-coded in-system programming cable. Its 48-pin dual in-line PCB end sits bottom-justified in the ZIP socket and uses the last 5 pins of each column, so devices marked ISP in the SuperPro software can be programmed on the target board instead of in a socket. It suits development benches and repair work where a serial EEPROM or microcontroller is already soldered down.

How the ISP Programming Adapter Connects

Seat the PCB end of the header bottom-justified in the programmer's ZIP socket. In the SuperPro software, select the in-circuit programmable device: parts that support ISP mode carry an ISP mark before the part number, for example MICROCHIP (ISP) PIC10F200. The software then opens an adapter information dialog showing which device pins are used and the colour of the header wire for each one, so you wire the cable to the matching points on your board.

Not every device uses all ten wires. Xeltek's own example, a 25LC640 serial EEPROM in SOIC8 programmed in circuit, uses only the lower eight pins of the header, with the adapter pinout drawn as a 10-pin DIP.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the ISP Header 01 Work with the SuperPro IS01?

No. The header plugs into a programmer's ZIP socket, and the IS01 has no ZIP socket. The IS01 ships with its own ISP cable for its ISP ports.

How Do I Know Which Wire Goes to Which Device Pin?

After you select an ISP device in the SuperPro software, the adapter information dialog lists the device pins used and the wire colour for each. The header pins run from brown (pin 1) to red (pin 10).

Can I Program a 25LC640 in Circuit with It?

Yes, according to Xeltek. Select 25LC640 SOIC8 in the software and connect the chip through the header; only the lower eight pins are used.
