Overview

B&W Pluckable Foam Inserts offer a versatile, do-it-yourself protection system for every B&W International outdoor.case model. Constructed from closed-cell polyethylene with a medium density of 25 kg/m³, each set includes five layers: convoluted lid foam, three layers of pre-scored pick & pluck cubes, and a solid base layer.

The 12 mm cube grid allows engineers to create compartments for cameras, test instruments, electronics, and precision tools without cutting tools. Customise on the fly in the lab, workshop, or field and adjust depths across multiple layers for optimal fit.

Standard dark grey finish matches all B&W case interiors. Purchase as an upgrade to empty cases or as replacements for worn original foam in any B&W outdoor.case model.

Questions and Answers

10 questions
  • How Many Foam Layers Are Included Per Case Size?

Each set has a pre-cut cube layer, egg-crate lid foam and a cushioning base layer. The number of layers varies by case type; B&W does not publish a count.

Answered by John LeggUpdated 8 Oct 2026
  • What Tools Are Needed for Customisation?

No tools required. Optional: chalk or pencil for marking and a ruler for precise layouts.

Answered by John LeggUpdated 8 Oct 2026
  • Will the Foam Degrade Over Time?

B&W publishes no ageing, material or temperature data for the foam. The case itself is rated from -30 °C to +80 °C. This set is the replacement if your inserts wear.

Answered by John LeggUpdated 8 Oct 2026
  • Can I Trim Foam for Non-B&W Cases?

B&W makes these sets for its own cases only. In our experience the base layer can be trimmed with a sharp knife to fit another case of similar size.

Answered by John LeggUpdated 8 Oct 2026
  • How Does This Compare to Custom-Cut Foam?

Pick & pluck foam can be changed by hand in the field. Custom-cut foam gives an exact fit but has to be ordered: B&W's custom inlays need a minimum of 10 pieces, with about 10 working days for a sample and about 20 for production.

Answered by John LeggUpdated 8 Oct 2026
  • Which B&W Cases Work with These Foam Inserts?

Pick & pluck (SI) sets are offered for B&W outdoor.case Types 500 to 6800. For Type 7800 and the largest types, where B&W lists plain foam layers (FI), check with us.

Answered by John LeggUpdated 8 Oct 2026
  • How Do I Customise Foam for Different Equipment Sizes?

Place items on the top layer, mark the outline, then pluck out the pre-cut cubes by hand. Deeper cavities use additional cube layers.

Answered by John LeggUpdated 8 Oct 2026
  • Can I Reuse Removed Foam Cubes?

Yes. Store spare cubes for future adjustments or additional padding needs.

Answered by John LeggUpdated 8 Oct 2026
  • Is the Foam Water-Resistant?

B&W publishes no water-resistance data for the foam. Water and dust protection come from the IP67-rated case itself.

Answered by John LeggUpdated 8 Oct 2026
  • Does the Foam Resist Chemicals and Solvents?

B&W publishes no chemical-resistance data for the foam. If your equipment may carry oils or solvents, clean it before packing or contact us about custom inlays.
