Key Features
Overview
The SEGGER J-Link ULTRA+ is a high-performance JTAG/SWD debug probe for Arm® Cortex-A/R/M and selected other cores. It delivers up to 4 MB/s download speed and supports target interface clocks up to 50 MHz, enabling rapid flash programming and responsive debug sessions.
Included Software & Licences
ULTRA+ comes with licences for Unlimited Flash Breakpoints, J-Flash, RDI/RDDI and the Ozone debugger, plus the J-Link GDB Server. Multi-platform host support (Windows, Linux and macOS) and broad IDE compatibility simplify integration into existing workflows.
Power & Trace-Related Capabilities
Built-in power measurement (up to 200 kSa/s, 50 µA resolution) helps profile low-power designs. SWO is supported, and a virtual COM (VCOM) interface provides convenient target UART over USB. For instruction trace via ETM, consider SEGGER J-Trace PRO.
Related Models
Within the J-Link family, engineers may also consider J-Link PLUS (same software ecosystem) or J-Link PRO (adds Ethernet and high-duty production use). Choosing ULTRA+ provides higher speed and power profiling in a compact USB probe.
Why Consider ULTRA+
ULTRA+ pairs proven J-Link reliability with faster downloads, advanced software features and integrated power profiling—ideal for professional teams needing measurable throughput gains and actionable power insights.
How it connects
This J-Link uses SEGGER's standard 20-pin 0.1" (2.54 mm) JTAG/SWD connector, the same connector used on every J-Link and Flasher. For SWD you need VTref (pin 1), SWDIO (pin 7), SWCLK (pin 9), nRESET (pin 15) and GND (pin 4), plus SWO (pin 13) if you want trace output. Full JTAG, SWD, cJTAG and SPI pin tables, and the adapters for 10-pin 0.05" Cortex Debug headers: SEGGER J-Link 20-pin connector pinout.

Frequently Asked Questions
Have a Question?
-
Which tool should I choose if I need Ethernet and remote use?
Consider the SEGGER J-Link PRO for Ethernet, higher duty cycles and remote workflows.
-
Is SWO supported for real-time logs?
Yes. SWO is supported (with high sampling rates) for printf-style logging and event tracing on supported MCUs.
-
Can ULTRA+ power a target board?
Yes, via the 20-pin header’s 5 V output (up to 300 mA), useful for small targets and evaluation boards.
-
Does ULTRA+ include Unlimited Flash Breakpoints?
Yes, the licence is included, enabling more than the MCU’s hardware breakpoint limit when debugging in flash.
-
What operating systems are supported?
Windows, Linux and macOS (including Apple Silicon) are supported with the J-Link Software & Documentation Pack.
-
How does ULTRA+ compare to more expensive Lauterbach tools?
Lauterbach excels at high-end ETM/PTM trace analytics; ULTRA+ focuses on fast JTAG/SWD debug with integrated power profiling.
-
How is ULTRA+ different from J-Link PLUS?
The ULTRA+ is 100% compatible but adds higher speed and power measurement; both include the J-Link software ecosystem.
-
Is ETM instruction trace available on ULTRA+?
No. For ETM streaming trace and code coverage, use the SEGGER J-Trace PRO.
-
How fast is flash programming with ULTRA+ in practice?
The probe supports up to 4 MB/s downloads; actual speed depends on MCU, flash, and memory algorithm performance.
-
Does J-Link ULTRA+ support my Arm Cortex-M target?
Yes, it supports a wide range of ARM Cortex devices and more; check the official supported devices list for specifics.
