The Promira SPI Active Level 2 Application (TP600610) raises a Total Phase Promira Serial Platform to SPI master speeds of up to 40 MHz and slave speeds of up to 20 MHz, with single and dual I/O. It adds up to three slave selects, twelve configurable GPIO and asynchronous slave transmit and receive. It is the licence for faster SPI flash programming and multi-device SPI buses, and it installs on top of SPI Active Level 1.
SPI Master to 40 MHz With Dual I/O
Level 2 makes the Promira a dual SPI host adapter. At 40 MHz the master runs more than three times faster than Level 1, and dual I/O doubles the data moved per clock on parts that support it. On large serial flash that turns a long read or program cycle into a short one, which matters on a production line and in a CI flow that reflashes boards on every build.
Three Slave Selects and Twelve GPIO
Up to three slave selects, configurable and shared with GPIO, address a flash, a sensor and a display controller on one bus without rewiring the fixture. Up to twelve GPIO handle resets, interrupts and write-protect lines, so one Promira and one script control the whole target.
SPI Slave to 20 MHz With Asynchronous Transmit and Receive
Slave mode runs at up to 20 MHz, and transmit and receive run asynchronously, so the Promira can emulate a peripheral that streams data to the host while it is still receiving commands. That is useful when the host MCU's SPI peripheral and DMA need testing at a realistic clock rate before the real device is fitted.
Software and API
Control Center Serial gives interactive control of the bus and GPIO. Flash Center programs and verifies I2C and SPI memory devices (Windows and Linux). The free Promira Software API covers C, C#, Python, .NET, VB.NET and VB6, with a LabVIEW driver for test stations, and the Promira Aardvark Wrapper API runs code written for the Aardvark API while you port it. Promira software runs on Windows 10 and 11, Linux and macOS 13 or later.

Limitations
- This is a software licence only. It runs on the Promira Serial Platform (£1,040 ex VAT), which is sold separately and must be in place before the licence can be installed.
- Level 2 requires SPI Active Level 1 (£120 ex VAT) on the same Promira.
- No quad I/O. For quad SPI flash at full width, and SPI master to 80 MHz, choose SPI Active Level 3.

As a dual SPI host adapter, Level 2 is the right stop for most SPI flash work up to 40 MHz with one to three devices. If you only need a master and never emulate a slave, compare it with the Cheetah.
Typical Applications
Dual-I/O reads and programming of 128 Mbit and larger SPI NOR flash at 40 MHz. A fixture with three SPI devices, each on its own slave select, tested from one Python script. Emulating an SPI sensor at 20 MHz while the host's DMA path is debugged.
Level 2 suits production engineers programming SPI flash at volume and test engineers building multi-device SPI fixtures.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this include the Promira hardware?
No. It is an application licence for a Promira Serial Platform you already own or order with it. The Promira Serial Platform is £1,040 ex VAT.
Do I need SPI Active Level 1 as well?
Yes. Total Phase lists SPI Active Level 1 as a prerequisite for Level 2. Level 1 is £120 ex VAT.
Does Level 2 support quad SPI?
No. Level 2 supports single and dual I/O. Quad I/O is added by SPI Active Level 3.
Can one Promira run several applications?
Yes. Total Phase states that a Promira Serial Platform can hold more than one application licence, so the I2C, SPI and analysis applications can all sit on the same unit. Each licence is added as a licence file through the Promira's admin interface, alongside firmware updates.
