The Promira I2C Analysis Application (TP601110) turns a Total Phase Promira Serial Platform into a non-intrusive I2C protocol analyser that monitors live traffic at up to 5 MHz at 3.3 V. Captured data streams directly to the PC, so capture length is set by disk space rather than an on-board buffer, and Data Center decodes it in real time with error reporting and bit-level timing. It is the tool for debugging what two real I2C devices actually say to each other.
Non-Intrusive I2C Capture to 5 MHz
The analyser listens to SDA and SCL without driving them, so the bus behaves exactly as it does without the tool attached. Total Phase rates capture at up to 5 MHz at 3.3 V, above the 4 MHz limit of the Beagle I2C/SPI. What you capture is what the shipping product does, including the NAK, the clock stretch or the stuck bus that only happens with the real parts.
Real-Time Decode With Error Codes and Bit-Level Timing
Data Center shows addresses, data, ACK and NAK as they occur, with error codes on malformed transactions. Bit-level timing shows when each edge occurred, so clock stretching and timing faults can be compared with the device datasheet instead of guessed at.
Nearly Limitless Streamed Capture
Because data is streamed straight to the PC, a capture can run for hours to catch a fault that appears once a day. Over Gigabit Ethernet the Promira can sit next to a unit in an environmental chamber or a soak-test rack while you watch from your desk.
Software
Captures are viewed in Total Phase Data Center, which decodes the bus in real time and saves sessions for later review. The analysis applications need Promira firmware v2.00 or later, which is installed through the Promira admin interface.

Limitations
- This is a software licence only. It runs on the Promira Serial Platform (£1,040 ex VAT), which is sold separately and must be in place before the licence can be installed.
- Monitor only. It does not act as master or slave; for that add I2C Active Level 1.
- Total Phase rates the 5 MHz figure at 3.3 V. If your bus runs at 1.8 V or lower, contact us before ordering.
- We ask for your Promira serial number at checkout, as printed on the label of the unit, because we need it to process the licence.
Which I2C and SPI Analyser Should You Choose?

If you need to watch I2C and SPI from one low-cost box at USB speeds, the Beagle I2C/SPI does both. If you already own a Promira, or need an I2C protocol analyser that captures above 4 MHz or works over Ethernet, add I2C Analysis for £120 ex VAT.
Typical Applications
Finding why a PMBus regulator occasionally NAKs its host during power-up. Measuring clock stretching on a slow EEPROM against the master's timeout. Logging a sensor bus overnight in a thermal chamber to catch a temperature-dependent fault.
I2C Analysis suits firmware and hardware engineers debugging I2C integration and test engineers chasing intermittent field failures.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this include the Promira hardware?
No. It is an application licence for a Promira Serial Platform you already own or order with it. The Promira Serial Platform is £1,040 ex VAT.
Can the analysis application drive the bus?
No. Analysis applications only monitor. To act as a master or slave, add the matching Active application to the same Promira.
How fast can it capture I2C?
Up to 5 MHz at 3.3 V, as rated by Total Phase. If you need to capture High-speed mode (3.4 MHz) traffic, contact us and we will confirm it with Total Phase before you order.
What do I need to give you when I order?
Your Promira serial number, as printed on the unit's label. We need it to process the licence.
