Overview

The ClampMan™ Light PCB Holder is our entry level model. It's mainly designed to clamp smaller PCBs or hold parts like relays, especially for soldering or repair. It can also be used for tasks such as thermal imaging or with the optional available top jaws for isolated measurements (ClampMan™ Light ISO Edition).

Questions and Answers

8 questions
  • Is the ClampMan Light Suitable for Thermal Imaging?

Yes. Fieger says it can be used for thermal imaging, with a thermal camera on a second joint stand.

    • It has the same degrees of freedom as the ClampMan Classic for positioning the board and the camera.
    • The round base plate takes up to four 400mm joint stands, so you can combine board holding, a camera and probes.
    • Once locked, the hydraulic joints hold position during long captures.

  • What Accessories and Upgrades Are Available for the ClampMan Light?

    The main options are:

    • CLM-1207 isolating chucks for work on powered PCBs (supplied with the Light ISO)
    • additional 300mm or 400mm joint stands
    • quick-change adapters for tweezers, vices, magnifying glasses and cameras
    • accessory sets such as the CLM-1070, with a base plate, two 400mm stands, a vice, isolating chucks and quick-change adapters

The round base takes up to four joint stands in total, so you can start with board holding and add instruments later.

  • How Does the ClampMan Light Help with Precision Soldering?

The hydraulic joints lock the board in place, so it doesn't move while you solder fine-pitch parts or rework dense boards, and the degrees of freedom let you set a comfortable working angle. The 3kg base plate keeps the holder stable.

  • Why Buy the Fieger ClampMan Light From Debug Store?

Debug Store is a UK supplier of electronic design tools, serving engineers worldwide.

    • We supply ClampMan models and accessories, and can help with system compatibility.
    • We help match the setup to your application and advise on expansion.
    • We supply genuine Fieger products.

  • What Maintenance and Lifespan Can I Expect From the ClampMan Light?

Hörger & Gässler, founded in 1969, make the hydraulic joint stands and state that, with proper handling, they often last more than a generation. Neither Fieger nor H&G publishes a maintenance schedule. Parts are sold separately if you need to replace one.

  • What Makes the ClampMan Light Better Than Basic PCB Holders?

    It uses German hydraulic positioning:

    • H&G hydraulic joint stands, which Fieger says have been valued for decades in the medical and processing industries; once locked, the board stays where you put it
    • a 3kg round base plate for stability
    • optional isolating chucks (CLM-1207) for work on energised PCBs

  • Can the ClampMan Light Handle Energised PCBs During Testing?

Yes, with isolating chucks fitted. Fieger offers the Light ISO, which comes with CLM-1207 isolating chucks on the vice, for clamping powered boards. The joint stands themselves are anodised aluminium and steel, so keep them clear of live parts.

  • How Does the Hydraulic Positioning System Work?

Loosen the star grip, position the arm, then tighten the grip to lock it. Tightening builds oil pressure that clamps every joint with very high rigidity, so probes, cameras and the board stay put without readjustment. The 400mm joint stand gives about 400mm of reach.
