LINEEYE's LE series is a family of portable protocol analysers that monitor and test serial communication on RS-232C, RS-422/485, TTL/UART, I2C, SPI, CAN, CAN FD and LIN lines. An LE analyser can sit on a live line and record what two devices say to each other, or take the place of one of them and send test data, so an engineer can find a protocol fault without writing any test code.
In monitor mode an LE analyser records the traffic between two devices without affecting the communication. It is wired in with a monitor cable (or a probe cable for TTL), captures the data with time stamps, and shows it on the instrument or on a PC. You can set triggers and search the captured data for errors, strings and timing problems.
In simulation mode an LE analyser acts as the communication partner, so you can test one device when the other is missing. It sends preset data and receives the replies, which lets you check how a device handles a request before the rest of the system exists. The LE-170SA, for example, sends 16 pre-registered CAN or LIN frames and can act as LIN master or LIN slave.

For network and USB work, LINEEYE also makes the LE-8600X (10 Gbit Ethernet), the LE-8500X (dual-channel Gbit Ethernet and PoE), the LE-590TX (10/100BASE-TX packet tester) and the LE-650H2 and LE-650H2-A USB 2.0 analysers.
Expansion kits add bus types to an LE-3500XR or LE-2500XR, so one handheld analyser can cover serial, in-vehicle and synchronous links.
LINEEYE also makes converters that put a serial device on a network or a PC. The SI-60-E and SI-60F connect RS-232C equipment to LAN. The SI-65, SI-65A, SI-65FA and SI-65FA-L do the same for RS-422/485. The SI-35USB and SI-35USB-2 convert USB to RS-422/485, and the SI-35USB-2 provides 3000 V isolation.
LINEEYE supplies PC software for browsing and converting captured data.
Monitor mode listens to a live line between two devices and records the traffic without affecting it. Simulation mode makes the analyser act as one of the devices, sending test data and receiving the replies.
For the fullest feature set choose the LE-3500XR(V2), which adds a program simulation mode and Modbus analysis. The LE-2500XR(V2) has the same interfaces at lower speeds with 4 simulation modes. The LE-110SA is a simpler async-only handheld.
Yes. TTL (1.8 to 5 V) is standard on the LE-3500XR(V2) and LE-2500XR(V2), and the LE-120SA handles RS-232C and TTL/UART. The LE-150PF adds TTL with the OP-5m probe pod.
Yes. The LE-170SA is a dedicated CAN/LIN handheld, the LE-270AF and LE-270GF add CAN FD and logging, and the OP-SB7XC expansion kit adds CAN, CAN FD and CXPI to an LE-3500XR or LE-2500XR.
Yes. The LE-3500XR(V2) and LE-2500XR(V2) save to SD card or USB flash up to 32 GB, and the LE-200PF and LE-150PF can run as stand-alone loggers writing to an SD card.
The LE-150PF and LE-200PF include LE-LINK20 and LE-LINK20F. For the LE-3500XR(V2) and LE-2500XR(V2), PC Link software is listed as a separate item on our site as PC Link software.
