Xeltek SuperPro IS01 High-Performance In-System Programmer

The Xeltek SuperPro IS01 programs parts already soldered to the board, from firmware bring-up to end-of-line serial number writing. It supports over 10,000 serial programmable devices over I2C, SPI, UART, BDM, Microwire, JTAG, CAN and RS-232, supplies target VDD up to 5.5V at 0.5A and VPP up to 15V at 0.2A, runs from a PC over USB 2.0 or on its own from project files on an SD card, and has an optocoupler-isolated ATE port for fixtures.

In-System Programming Over a Cable of Up to 1 m

As a serial in-system programmer, the IS01 reaches targets up to 3 feet (1 m) away, with programming speed selectable in software to suit cable length and board loading. I/O level is set in software from 1.5V to 4V. It can power a light-load target, though Xeltek recommends the board's own supply in most cases.

Port A (10x2) carries every protocol except CAN and RS-232, including SPI, I2C, JTAG, UART, BDM and Microwire; Port B (5x2) carries CAN and RS-232.

Stand-Alone Production Programming with ATE Control

Stand-alone, the IS01 runs from its LCD, keypad and LED status indicator, loading password-protectable project files from an SD card (maximum 4GB). Each project holds the device, buffer data, configuration bits and batch sequence.

The optocoupler-isolated ATE interface gives fixtures six project select lines (SEL0 to SEL5), START and STOP inputs and PASS, FAIL and BUSY outputs. In mass production mode, shorting TPIN and TPOUT on the target board starts the AUTO sequence (erase, blank check, program, verify, protect) as soon as the board connects. Up to 12 programmers run from one PC through a USB hub.

Software, CPLD Files and Test System Integration

The Windows software adds production logs, password-locked Factory Mode, auto-increment serial numbers and automatic recognition of binary, Intel hex, Motorola S, Tektronix, JEDEC and POF files. XPlayer runs JAM, SVF and STAPL (.stp) files for Actel, Xilinx and Altera programmable logic, generated in design tools such as Quartus II or ISE, plus Actel Direct C files. An optional DLL or Virtual COM command set, and a LabVIEW driver, let ICT equipment test and program in one step.

Limitations

• In-system programming only. There is no ZIP socket, so loose chips need a socket-based universal programmer such as the SuperPro 6000E or SuperPro 6000.
• CAN and RS-232 targets on Port B need the optional ISP cable type B.
• Target VDD is rated at 0.5A; power heavier boards from their own supply. Long or heavily loaded lines may need a lower programming speed.
• Protocol support does not guarantee a part is in the library; check the IS01 device list.
