Questions and Answers
-
What Voltage Levels Does This Adapter Support?
The adapter has no voltage rating of its own. The programmer sets the supply voltage (Vcc) in its software to suit the device; the SF600 in socket mode is adjustable from 1.8V to 3.8V.
-
Can I Use This Adapter for In-System Programming?
No. This adapter is for socket (offline) programming, where the IC is out of the target circuit. For in-system programming, use a Dediprog ISP cable for your programmer.
-
What Programming Speeds Can I Achieve with This Adapter?
Speed depends on the programmer and the flash device. Dediprog's SF600 figures (program and verify, USB mode) run from 9 seconds for an 8Mb device to about 89 seconds for a 256Mb device. Dediprog's SF600Plus-G2 Quad IO figures for 8Mb and 256Mb devices are 6.3 and 46.6 seconds.
-
How Do I Handle the Adapter to Prevent Damage?
Use a pick-up tool for handling. Avoid touching the circuit board directly, as dirt and static can cause programming errors. Remove the adapter from the programmer after use to prevent accidental damage.
-
What Software Do I Need to Use This Adapter?
Use the Dediprog software for your programmer: SF Software for SF-series programmers, or DediWare for ProgMaster programmers. EEPROM programming needs DediWare 3.16.28.13 or later. Select your device's part number in the software before programming.
-
What SPI Flash Devices Are Compatible with This Adapter?
It takes SPI NOR flash and EEPROM devices in SOP8 150mil packages; Dediprog's list includes SST 25VF and 25LF parts. Check Dediprog's IC Device Search to confirm your exact part.
-
Which Dediprog Programmers Work with This Adapter?
Dediprog lists it for the ProgMaster-U4, ProgMaster-U8, SF100, SF600Plus-G2 and SF700. Dediprog's socket adaptor guide also covers the earlier SF600, SF600Plus, StarProg-F and StarProg-U. It plugs into the programmer's socket header with the triangle marks aligned.
-
Can This Adapter Program Both Flash and EEPROM Devices?
Yes. It supports SPI NOR flash and EEPROM programming (EEPROM needs DediWare 3.16.28.13 or later). It can't program I2C EEPROMs on K110 or StarProg-A programmers.
-
What Is the Difference Between 150mil and 207mil SOP08 Adapters?
The 150mil adapter takes narrower SOP08 packages (3.9mm body width). The 207mil version takes wider packages (5.23mm body width). Check your IC datasheet for the body width.
-
How Do I Ensure Proper IC Insertion Into the Socket?
- Align the pin 1 triangle mark on the socket with pin 1 of your IC.
- Press down gently until the IC seats fully.
- Check visually that all pins are aligned before programming.
