Overview
The SEGGER J-Link PRO PoE (SKU 8.12.28) is a professional JTAG/SWD debug and programming probe designed for automated “test farm” and remote workflows. Powered directly by Power-over-Ethernet (IEEE 802.3af), it removes separate power bricks and simplifies rack-scale deployment. The probe can supply power to the target either via the 20-pin debug header or its USB-A port, enabling remote power-cycling as part of CI and regression testing.
Performance & Tools
J-Link PRO PoE delivers up to 4 MiB/s download speed (target-dependent) with the standard J-Link software stack: J-Link GDB Server, Ozone debugger, J-Flash, and the Unlimited Flash Breakpoints licence for efficient debugging of code running from flash. A built-in web interface and DHCP make network configuration straightforward. VCOM (virtual COM port) provides convenient UART logging without a separate USB-serial adapter.
Compatibility & Family
Compatible with major IDEs on Windows, Linux and macOS and with a wide range of Arm® Cortex and other MCUs. Within the family, consider J-Link PRO (8.12.00) for non-PoE Ethernet/USB use, or J-Link ULTRA+ (8.16.28) for compact, high-speed USB with power measurement. For streaming ETM trace, see J-Trace PRO.
Why Consider It?

Frequently Asked Questions
Have a Question?
-
What are related alternatives in the J-Link range?
For compact USB with power measurement, see the J-Link Ultra. For streaming trace and coverage, see J-Trace.
-
Can I access it remotely over the network?
Yes. Use Ethernet and SEGGER’s Remote Server for LAN/WAN access. PoE simplifies remote placement in racks and enclosures.
-
Does it work with my IDE?
J-Link integrates with major IDEs and debuggers on Windows, Linux, and macOS via the J-Link DLL or GDB Server.
-
Is ETM instruction trace supported?
For continuous ETM streaming trace, choose the J-Trace. J-Link can read ETB where available, but is not a substitute for the J-Trace.
-
Do I need special software licences?
Unlimited Flash Breakpoints, J-Flash, Ozone, and J-Link GDB Server are included in the J-Link Software & Documentation Pack.
-
How does PRO PoE differ from J-Link PRO?
Functionally similar, but PRO PoE adds PoE power and remote target power output for farm use.
-
Does it support SWD, JTAG, and SWO?
Yes. It supports standard Arm JTAG/SWD; SWO is available on supported MCUs for printf-style logging and event tracing.
-
How fast is programming?
Up to 4 MiB/s (target-dependent). This reduces turnaround between builds during CI and interactive debugging.
-
Can it power the target device?
Yes. When PoE-powered, the probe can supply target power via the debug header or USB-A, enabling scripted power-cycles during automated tests.
-
What makes J-Link PRO PoE suited to test farms?
PoE power plus switchable target power let you deploy many probes with one cable each and power-cycle DUTs remotely. For non-PoE Ethernet, see the J-Link Pro.
