The Promira SPI Active Level 1 Application (TP600510) turns a Total Phase Promira Serial Platform into an SPI host adapter running as master from 31 kHz to 12.5 MHz and as slave from 31 kHz to 8 MHz. It provides full-duplex master transmit and receive, a slave response of up to 256 bytes, configurable slave-select polarity and one slave select. It is the entry licence for SPI flash programming, peripheral emulation and driver bring-up on the Promira.
SPI Master to 12.5 MHz, Slave to 8 MHz
As a master, Level 1 clocks out and reads back in the same full-duplex transaction, so register reads and flash commands behave exactly as they will from the target MCU. At 12.5 MHz the master runs faster than the Aardvark's 8 MHz, and the 8 MHz slave mode is double the Aardvark's 4 MHz. The single slave select is configurable and shared with GPIO, and its polarity is set in software in master mode.
SPI Slave Emulation With a 256-Byte Response
In slave mode the Promira returns a response of up to 256 bytes to the master,. Firmware engineers use this to stand in for an ADC, display controller or sensor while the real part is unavailable, and to feed the host MCU known data patterns when debugging its SPI driver.
Program SPI Flash With Flash Center
With Level 1 installed, Flash Center reads, erases, programs and verifies SPI serial flash and EEPROM on a target board, and the Promira Software API scripts the same operations for production. Up to six GPIO, two while the SPI pins are in use, can hold a target in reset or control write-protect during programming.
Software and API
Control Center Serial gives interactive control of the bus and GPIO. Flash Center programs and verifies I2C and SPI memory devices (Windows and Linux). The free Promira Software API covers C, C#, Python, .NET, VB.NET and VB6, with a LabVIEW driver for test stations, and the Promira Aardvark Wrapper API runs code written for the Aardvark API while you port it. Promira software runs on Windows 10 and 11, Linux and macOS 13 or later.

Limitations
- This is a software licence only. It runs on the Promira Serial Platform (€1.288,95 ex VAT), which is sold separately and must be in place before the licence can be installed.
- Level 1 is single I/O only. Dual I/O starts at SPI Active Level 2; quad I/O needs SPI Active Level 3.
- One slave select. For two or three devices on the bus without rewiring, choose Level 2.
- This licence drives the bus. To monitor SPI traffic between two live devices, add SPI Analysis Level 1.

For a master-only SPI programmer at 40 MHz or more, the Cheetah costs less than a Promira with Level 2. Choose the Promira with Level 1 when you need slave emulation, Ethernet control, or a platform that can grow into faster SPI, I2C and analysis.
Typical Applications
Programming Winbond W25Q and Macronix MX25L serial flash on assembled boards. Emulating an SPI ADC so the host firmware's DMA path can be tested with known samples. Scripted SPI register tests in Python, run over Gigabit Ethernet from a test rack.
Level 1 suits firmware engineers bringing up SPI drivers and production engineers programming SPI memory at up to 12.5 MHz.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this include the Promira hardware?
No. It is an application licence for a Promira Serial Platform you already own or order with it. The Promira Serial Platform is €1.288,95 ex VAT.
Does SPI Active Level 1 support dual or quad SPI?
No. Level 1 is single I/O. Total Phase adds dual I/O at Level 2 and quad I/O at Level 3.
Is the Promira faster than the Aardvark for SPI?
Yes. With Level 1 the Promira masters SPI at up to 12.5 MHz against the Aardvark's 8 MHz, and as a slave runs to 8 MHz against 4 MHz.
Can one Promira run several applications?
Yes. Total Phase states that a Promira Serial Platform can hold more than one application licence, so the I2C, SPI and analysis applications can all sit on the same unit. Each licence is added as a licence file through the Promira's admin interface, alongside firmware updates.
