Overview

The Thumbstick Click Board™ is a quality input board that makes it easy for the users to add a high precision analogue thumb joystick to their design. This Click Board™ features an MCP3204 12-bit A/D converter. It also has got a pushbutton enabled joystick with dual-axis and spring return. This joystick is quite similar to the ones used on joypads on popular gaming consoles like PS2 and Xbox controllers. Thumbstick Click Board™ has a typical life span of 100,000 cycles. With the help of two potentiometers connected to a stick, directional input gets received in the x and y axes of the joystick unit. An interrupt signal to the target board microcontroller is sent by the mechanical push button. The MCP3204 12-bit A/D converter then converts the analogue signal to digital. To output this digital signal to the target board, the Thumbstick Click Board™ makes use of MikroBUS SPI (CS, SCK, MISO and MOSI) lines.

The Thumbstick Click Board™ Input device is suitable for fine control of graphical user interfaces and remote control operated video games since it facilitates 360-degree directional movement.

The Thumbstick Click Board™ is a high precision input device. The Thumbstick Click Board™ communicates with the target board through mikroBUS SPI (CS, SCK, MISO and MOSI) lines. The board is designed to use either a 3.3V or a 5V power supply (regulated by the on-board J1 jumper which is soldered to the 3.3V position by default).

MCP3204 12-bit A/D converter

The MCP3204 is a 12-bit Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) that is equipped with a successive approximation register (SAR) architecture and an industry-standard SPI serial interface. It allows 12-bit ADC capability to be added to any PICmicro microcontroller. The MCP3204 features 100k samples/second, 4 input channels, low-power consumption (5nA typical standby, 400
