Overview

The Acute TravelBus TB3000 series represents the latest generation of portable logic analyzers, specifically engineered for automotive and automation industry applications. This 2-in-1 analyzer seamlessly switches between Logic Analyzer and Protocol Analyzer modes, providing unprecedented flexibility for embedded system debugging.

Available in three variants: TB3016F (basic I²C/SPI analysis), TB3016E (extended protocol support), and TB3016B (full differential signal capability with CAN/RS485 isolation).

The analyzer connects via USB 3.0 for both power and high-speed data transfer, eliminating the need for external power supplies. Its compact 96×74×24mm form factor makes it ideal for field testing and benchtop debugging. Stack with TravelScope oscilloscopes to create comprehensive mixed-signal analysis solutions.

Unlike traditional logic analyzers with limited onboard memory, the TB3000 utilises PC RAM for virtually unlimited capture depth, perfect for long-term protocol logging and intermittent fault detection. The intuitive software provides real-time waveform display and automatic protocol recognition for rapid setup.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have a Question?

Ask a Question
  • Can I develop custom protocol decoders?

The TB3000 software supports the extensive built-in protocol library, but custom decoder development requires advanced programming. For specialized protocols not in the standard library, consider using the raw digital capture mode and post-processing tools, or contact Acute Technology for custom development options.

  • What accessories are included with the TB3000?

Each TB3000 includes the analyzer module, USB 3.0 cable, 40-pin lead cable, and micro-gripper hooks. The TB3016B additionally includes terminal blocks and D-Sub connectors for differential signal connections. All models come with comprehensive software and documentation.

  • How does the TB3000 compare to Saleae Logic analyzers?

The TB3000 offers competitive specifications at lower cost, with unique differential input capabilities not found in basic Saleae models. While Saleae provides excellent software polish, the TB3000 delivers superior protocol count, differential signal support, and automotive-focused features like isolated CAN inputs.

  • Can I use this analyzer for 3.3V and 5V logic levels?

Yes, the TB3000 supports voltage thresholds from -6V to +6V with 50mV resolution. It automatically works with 1.8V, 3.3V, and 5V logic families. The threshold accuracy is ±100mV + 5% of set voltage, ensuring reliable logic level detection across different technologies.

  • What software do I need and is it included?

The TravelBus Analyzer (TBA) software is provided free with the hardware. It runs on Windows 7/8/10/11 (64-bit) and includes both Logic Analyzer and Protocol Analyzer modes. The software features intuitive waveform display, automatic protocol recognition, and data export to CSV/TXT formats.

  • Is the TB3000 compatible with existing oscilloscopes?

Yes, the TB3016E and TB3016B models can stack with various oscilloscope brands including Acute TravelScope, LeCroy, Keysight, and Tektronix. This creates a mixed-signal oscilloscope (MSO) capability for time-aligned analog and digital signal correlation.

  • What is the maximum signal frequency I can reliably capture?

The TB3000 provides 800 MHz timing analysis with up to 50 MHz reliable signal capture due to USB transmission limitations. For digital protocols like I²C, SPI, and CAN, this bandwidth far exceeds typical requirements. The analyzer uses 4x oversampling for reliable edge detection on all channels.

  • How much memory is available for signal capture?

The TB3000 uses your PC's RAM as capture memory via USB 3.0, providing virtually unlimited depth. With 16GB system RAM, you can capture continuous data for hours. This eliminates the memory limitations of traditional logic analyzers and enables long-term protocol logging for intermittent fault detection.

  • Can I capture CAN bus signals directly without external transceivers?

Yes, the TB3016B model features dedicated differential CAN inputs with 1000V safety isolation. These ports directly capture CAN2.0B and CAN-FD signals up to 10 Mbps without requiring external transceivers or differential probes, significantly simplifying automotive debugging setups.

  • What protocols can the TB3000 series decode?

The TB3000 supports over 70 protocols including I²C, SPI, UART, CAN2.0/CAN-FD, RS485, LIN, USB PD, DALI, and many automotive/industrial standards. The exact protocol count varies by model: TB3016F supports basic serial protocols, TB3016E adds automotive protocols, and TB3016B includes the full suite with differential signal decoding.
