Why Engineers Choose The Total Phase Level Shifter Board (TP240610)
Multi-voltage Compatibility
Integrated Power Supply
High-Speed Performance
The Level-Shifter Board allows to your perform level shifting for I2C, SPI, and MDIO signals and supports voltage levels of 1.2V, 1.5V, 1.8V, 2.5V, 3.0V, and 3.3V. It can be used to supply power to downstream devices and transfers I2C signals at a speed of 800 kHz and SPI and MDIO signal at speeds of 20 MHz.
The board has two connectors for connecting to the target interface and two additional connectors to connect an Aardvark™/Cheetah™ Host Adapter and a Beagle™ Protocol Analyser. The board needs to be powered at the Host/Analyser interface by a 5V power supply. This is normally supplied by the Host Adapter or Analyser. The Target interface is powered either from the Target interface itself or from the Host end via a set of jumper selectable voltages.
Frequently Asked Questions
Have a Question?
-
Does the Level Shifter Board require external power?
No external power is required. The board is powered from the connected Total Phase instrument via the target power feature, which must be enabled in the software.
-
What is the minimum voltage level the board can translate to?
The Level Shifter Board can translate down to 1.2V logic levels, making it compatible with the latest low-power microcontrollers and embedded systems.
-
Can I use the Level Shifter Board as a signal pass-through without voltage translation?
Yes, by setting the voltage jumper to 3.3V, the board can pass signals through without level translation whilst still providing signal buffering and isolation.
-
What cables are included with the Level Shifter Board?
The board includes a 6-inch 10-pin ribbon cable, a 1.5-inch 10-pin ribbon cable, and three configuration jumpers for complete setup.
-
Is the Level Shifter Board bidirectional?
Yes, the board provides true bidirectional level translation, allowing signals to flow in both directions between the Total Phase instrument and target device without requiring direction control pins.
-
How do I connect multiple target devices to the Level Shifter Board?
The board provides two cross-connected target connectors (TARGET1 and TARGET2) plus external breakout headers. Multiple I2C devices can share the same bus, whilst SPI devices require separate chip select lines.
-
What are the maximum communication speeds supported?
The Level Shifter Board supports I2C communication up to 800 kHz and SPI/MDIO signalling up to 20 MHz. Actual speeds may vary depending on target device specifications and cable lengths.
-
Can the Level Shifter Board provide power to target devices?
Yes, the board includes an on-board regulator that can supply up to 50mA at the selected voltage level. This is sufficient to power small devices like flash memory chips or sensors directly.
-
What voltage levels can the Level Shifter Board translate to?
The board supports translation to 1.2V, 1.5V, 1.8V, 2.5V, 3.0V, and 3.3V logic levels. Voltage selection is configured via jumper settings or by using the target device's own power supply.
-
Which Total Phase instruments are compatible with the Level Shifter Board?
The Level Shifter Board works with all Total Phase I2C and SPI tools including the Aardvark I2C/SPI Host Adapter, Beagle I2C/SPI Protocol Analyzer, Cheetah SPI Host Adapter, and Promira Serial Platform with appropriate applications.
