Overview
The TC2030-MCP-SOFT is the soft-squeeze version of the TC2030-MCP: a legged 6-pin Plug-of-Nails cable with an RJ12 modular plug for Microchip ICD programmers and debuggers.
Soft-squeeze cables are made for frequent production use. The side squeeze-tabs that release the legs are easier on operators' fingers, and they can also help in very low humidity or low temperatures, where squeeze-tabs can be stiffer. Because the legs release more easily, an accidental tug can pull the cable off the board, so the standard TC2030-MCP is the better choice for development and debugging. Soft-squeeze cables are not recommended for humid environments.
For an even smaller footprint, see the TC2030-MCP-NL.

Which TC2030-MCP Cable?
| Cable | Target end | Retention | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| TC2030-MCP | Legged, standard squeeze tabs | Four legs clip into locating holes | Development and debugging; also production programming |
| TC2030-MCP-SOFT (this cable) | Legged, soft squeeze tabs | Legs clip in; an accidental tug can disconnect it | Frequent production programming; not for debugging or humid environments |
| TC2030-MCP-NL | No legs; footprint hardly bigger than an SMT resistor | Held by hand, or with a TC2030-CLIP | Production programming with brief connections, board to board |

Questions and Answers
-
What Is a Soft-Squeeze Cable?
A version with softer side squeeze-tabs for releasing the legs. It is designed for frequent production use and is easier on operators' fingers.
-
Should I Use It for Debugging?
No. An accidental tug can disconnect a soft-squeeze cable from the board. Use the standard TC2030-MCP for debugging and development.
-
Where Should It Not Be Used?
Soft-squeeze cables are not recommended in humid environments.
-
Which Programmers Does It Fit?
Microchip ICD programmers and debuggers with an RJ12 modular connector.
