WiFi Proto Board
WiFi Proto Board
Overview
Add wireless functionality between a microcontroller and a remote device using the MikroE WiFi-PROTO Board. Offered with a compact footprint, this communication board acts as a high performance, low power MRF24WB0MA Wi-Fi radio transceiver module with serialized unique MAC address. It is compliant with IEEE 802.11 standards. The WiFi-PROTO Board is connected to a microcontroller through a proto board that is connected to the I/O port of the development system. This accessory board uses the 4-wire SPI interface for communication with the microcontroller. Additional on-board JTAG and UART modules are provides for testing purposes. The WiFi - PROTO Board also features an integrated PCB antenna and supports Wi-Fi with the free TCP/IP protocol stack. It uses a 3.3V power supply only.
The WiFi-PROTO Board is an ideal choice for low-power, low data-rate Wi-Fi sensor networks, home automation, industrial controls, retail, and medical, fitness and healthcare devices.
IC/Module: MRF24WB0MA Wi-Fi Radio Transceiver Module
MRF24WB0MA is a wireless 2.4 GHz 802.11b-compatible solution that can be connected to hundreds of PIC microcontrollers through a 4-wire serial slave SPI communication interface. The module is intended for use with Microchip microcontroller families (PIC18, PIC24, dsPIC33, and PIC32) with downloadable Microchip TCP/IP stack.
Regulatory Approval
The MRF24WB0MA aboard WiFi-PROTO Board has received regulatory approvals for modular devices, which eliminates the need for expensive RF and antenna design. With this, it enables the user to place the module inside a finished product and not require regulatory testing for an intentional radiator, like RF transmitter.
Communication Interface
WiFi-PROTO Board interfaces with PIC18, PIC24, dsPIC33, or PIC32 microcontrollers through a 4-wire serial slave SPI interface. Designed for a 3.3V power supply, it is advisable to use voltage translators when using a 5V system. It supports optional JTAG and serial debug for testability.
