Have a J-Link BASE and want to get an upgrade?
The JTAG/SWD debug probe J-Link BASE, with its USB interface increases productivity with the J-Link BASE Upgrade. Already supporting a broad range of microcontrollers, J-Link BASE can already work on multiple CPUs, supporting 8051, PIC32, RX, ARM7/9/11, Cortex-M/R/A, RISC-V with a download speed of up to 1Mbytes. It also supports unlimited breakpoints in flash memory (with an additional license) and has built-in VCOM functionality.
With the J-Link BASE Upgrade, users can also get J-Flash / J-Flash SPI software, the Ozone Performance Debugger & Analyzer, RDI & RDDI.
Further advantages
The J-Link BASE to PLUS upgrade comes with a software bundle that includes the J-Flash / J-Flash SPI license, software to program EEPROM and flash chips in ARM systems and a J-Link Unlimited Flash Breakpoints license. Included is also the Ozone J-Link Debugger & Performance Analyzer, Monitor Mode, J-Link ARM RDI / RDDI license and the license pack for the RDI / RDDI interface.

Frequently Asked Questions
Have a Question?
-
Why do professional engineers choose to upgrade to PLUS?
Engineers value the bundled licences, broad CPU/IDE support, and production-readiness. Compared with higher-priced probes, PLUS balances features with efficiency.
-
Does the upgrade enable Real-Time Transfer (RTT)?
Yes. RTT is supported on J-Link PLUS, providing real-time logging and data exchange without halting the target or wiring extra UARTs.
-
Is the upgrade suitable for RISC-V development?
Yes. The J-Link PLUS supports Arm, RX, PIC32 and RISC-V devices, making it a flexible option for engineers working across architectures.
-
What is the benefit of Unlimited Flash Breakpoints?
This feature allows reliable software breakpoints in flash, critical for debugging applications that run entirely from on-chip flash memory.
-
Can I use J-Flash immediately after upgrading BASE to PLUS?
Yes. The upgrade activates J-Flash, allowing secure production programming of internal and external flash devices without further purchases.
-
How does J-Link PLUS compare with more advanced probes such as J-Link PRO or ULTRA+?
The J-Link PLUS delivers fast debug and production programming at up to 15 MHz. PRO and ULTRA+ offer higher interface speeds and advanced trace features but at a higher investment.
-
What licences are included with the J-Link PLUS upgrade?
The upgrade adds Unlimited Flash Breakpoints and J-Flash licences, both essential for engineers working with flash-only microcontrollers.
-
What is the SEGGER J-Link Upgrade BASE to PLUS?
It is a licence upgrade that converts a J-Link BASE into a J-Link PLUS, unlocking advanced features such as Unlimited Flash Breakpoints and J-Flash programming.
