IrDa 2 Click Board
IrDa 2 Click Board
Overview
Add infrared communication feature to the device with the IrDA2 Click Board™ from MikroE! Whether the user is switching a channel on a TV or sending a command to the air conditioner through a remote, it involves infrared transceivers. The IrDA2 Click Board™ is an add-on communication board that employs a TFDU4101 infrared transceiver module, compliant with the latest IrDA physical layer standard designed for high-speed infrared data communication.
The board also features an MCP2120 infrared encoder/decoder connected with the 7.3728 MHz external crystal. Positioned between the UART and infrared (IR) optical transceiver, the MCP2120 module performs the modulation and demodulation method in accordance with the IrDA standard. IrDA2 Click Board™ uses the UART interface to communicate with the target board microcontroller. Using an SMD jumper, the user can also select to choose between a 3.3V or 5V power supply. The onboard LED diode (green) indicates the power supply status.
With all these features, IrDA2 Click Board™ is for TV and video systems, computers and PDAs, printers, fax machines, photocopiers, external infrared adapters, diagnostic systems, data loggers, and other industrial applications.
IC/Module: MCP2120 Infrared Encoder/Decoder
MCP2120 is a low-cost, high-performance infrared encoder/decoder that sits between an IR optical transceiver and a UART. The data received from a standard UART, which is encoded (modulated) and outputted as electrical pulses to the infrared transceiver. MCP2120 decodes (demodulates) these electrical pulses and transmits the data by the MCP2120 UART. All this is performed compliant with the IrDA standard.
IC/Module: TFDU4101 Infrared Transceiver Module
Designed in accordance with the latest IrDA standard, TFDU4101 is an infrared transceiver module for fast infrared data communication. It supports IrDA speeds up to 115.2 kbit/s and covers the full IrDA range of more than 1m. This transceiver module has a tristate output and is floating in shutdown mode with a weak pull-up.
SMD Jumpers
IrDA2 Click Board™ features on-board three SMD jumpers (J0, J1, J2) that connect MCP2120 controller BAUD0, BAUD1 and BAUD2 pins to VCC or GND. By soldering these jumpers in appropriate positions, the user can change baud rate settings. The jumpers are soldered in logic 1 position by default. Another SMD jumper J3 allows user to choose between 3.3V and 5V power supply.
