Overview

The Array 3710A delivers professional-grade electronic load testing capabilities in a compact benchtop form factor. This versatile instrument excels at battery discharge testing, power supply validation, and DC circuit characterisation with its three operating modes and comprehensive protection features.

Designed for engineering applications requiring precise load simulation, the 3710A offers excellent measurement accuracy with 0.2% voltage and current precision across its full operating range. The intuitive LCD interface and programmable memory functions streamline repetitive testing procedures whilst RS232/USB connectivity enables seamless integration into automated test systems.

Engineers particularly value its ultra-low minimum resistance (<0.08Ω) which ensures accurate testing of modern low-voltage, high-current power sources including point-of-load converters and fuel cells. The robust construction and comprehensive safety features make it suitable for both laboratory research and production testing environments.

Engineer Q&A

Questions and Answers

10 questions
  • How Many Test Sequences Can Be Stored in Memory?

The 3710A stores up to 9 programmes (P1 to P9), each of up to 10 steps, in non-volatile memory for automated testing.

Answered by John LeggUpdated 8 Oct 2026
  • What Protection Features Prevent Damage During Testing?

Protection covers over-voltage, over-current, over-power and over-temperature, plus reverse polarity. Array does not document how each protection responds when it trips. A minimum input voltage setting stops the test automatically, which is useful for battery discharge.

Answered by John LeggUpdated 8 Oct 2026
  • What Is the Minimum Operating Voltage for Full Current?

Array specifies the lowest conductive resistance as under 0.08Ω but gives no minimum operating voltage. By Ohm's law, drawing the full 30A needs roughly 2.4V or more at the input; at lower voltages the maximum current is lower.

Answered by John LeggUpdated 8 Oct 2026
  • Does the Unit Include Software and Interface Cables?

The RS232, RS485 and USB interface adapters (Array 3311 to 3314) are optional. Array's manual says the ElectronicLoad software CD is supplied with the interface adapter.

Answered by John LeggUpdated 8 Oct 2026
  • How Does the 3710A Compare with the Higher-Power 3711A Model?

The 3710A offers 150W maximum power whilst the 3711A provides 300W. All other specifications including voltage range, current capability, and accuracy are identical.

Answered by John LeggUpdated 8 Oct 2026
  • What Power Sources Can the Array 3710A Test?

The 3710A tests DC power supplies and rechargeable batteries, and other DC sources within its ratings of 150W, 360V and 30A.

Answered by John LeggUpdated 8 Oct 2026
  • What Are the Three Operating Modes and When Do I Use Each?

Constant Current (CC) for battery discharge testing, Constant Power (CP) for consistent load simulation, and Constant Resistance (CR) for voltage regulator testing and resistive load simulation.

Answered by John LeggUpdated 8 Oct 2026
  • How Accurate Are the Voltage and Current Measurements?

Voltage accuracy is 0.2% + 3-300mV depending on range. Current accuracy is 0.2% + 3-30mA depending on range. Minimum resolution is 1mV (below 4V) and 1mA (below 3A), and coarser on the higher ranges.

Answered by John LeggUpdated 8 Oct 2026
  • Can Multiple 3710A Units Be Connected Together?

Yes. Array states that units can be connected in parallel, which increases the total power available for testing sources above 150W. Array gives no method or limits for this, so ask us before building a parallel setup.

Answered by John LeggUpdated 8 Oct 2026
  • What Programming and Connectivity Options Are Available?

RS232, RS485 and USB interfaces are available through optional adapters, and Array's ElectronicLoad software gives PC control.
