Overview

The Aaronia GPS Logger (503/035) is a professional 6-sensor data logging device designed specifically for RF measurement applications. This compact 88-gram unit integrates high-end GPS positioning with digital compass, 3D accelerometer, gyro/tilt sensor, altimeter, and pressure sensing capabilities.
Key Application: Originally designed to document position and orientation of Aaronia HyperLOG antennas, this logger enables creation of detailed "RF heat maps" showing frequency, direction, and signal strength within 360 degrees.
The logger achieves exceptional data rates up to 35 logs per second with positioning accuracy of 1.8m (CEP95) and GPS sensitivity of -165 dBm. The integrated 3D compass provides 1-2 degree precision whilst the triaxial accelerometer delivers up to 4mg resolution. Operating from an internal 800mAh LiPo battery, it supports standalone operation or continuous USB connectivity for extended measurement campaigns. Data storage utilises removable microSD cards (up to 2GB) with flexible recording modes: standalone logging, real-time USB streaming, or file transfer to PC/Linux/Mac systems. The device mounts directly to HyperLOG X and EMI antennas using included adapters and screws.

Engineer Q&A

Questions and Answers

10 questions
  • What Storage Capacity Does the Device Offer?
The internal microSD card supports up to 2GB, which gives about 2 days of continuous recording at the maximum data rate. At lower data rates, recording time extends to weeks or months.
Answered by John LeggUpdated 17 Sep 2025
  • How Accurate Is the Digital Compass Measurement?
The 3D digital compass has 1-2 degree heading accuracy across a magnetic field range of ±8 Oe. Calibrate it with the standard figure-of-eight movement, as you would a smartphone compass.
Answered by John LeggUpdated 17 Sep 2025
  • What Operating Temperature Range Does the Logger Support?
    -20°C to +45°C, with humidity below 90% RH. The logger measures 102 x 42 x 21mm and withstands shock up to 10,000g.
Answered by John LeggUpdated 17 Sep 2025
  • Can Data Be Exported to Mapping Applications?
Yes. The included software exports to Google Earth KML, Google Maps and standard GPS formats (NMEA, GPX). Real-time USB streaming gives live position tracking on PC, Linux or Mac.
Answered by John LeggUpdated 17 Sep 2025
  • What Makes This Logger Suitable for RF Measurements?
It records precise position and orientation with your measurements, so you can build "RF heat maps" that correlate signal strength with exact antenna position and pointing direction. This is essential for EMC site surveys and locating interference.
Answered by John LeggUpdated 17 Sep 2025
  • What Sensors Are Integrated Into the Aaronia GPS Logger?

    It has six sensors:

    • high-end GPS receiver
    • 3D digital compass
    • triaxial accelerometer
    • gyro/tilt sensor
    • barometric altimeter
    • pressure sensor

Together they track both position and orientation.

Answered by John LeggUpdated 17 Sep 2025
  • How Fast Can the GPS Logger Record Data?
Up to 35 complete sensor readings per second, with all six sensor parameters captured simultaneously. That is fast enough to track rapidly changing positions and orientations during mobile measurements.
Answered by John LeggUpdated 17 Sep 2025
  • What Is the Positioning Accuracy of the GPS System?
GPS accuracy is 1.8 metres (CEP95) with sensitivity down to -165 dBm. The system tracks position, altitude (up to 18,000m), and velocity (up to 515 m/s) with 0.1 m/s speed accuracy.
Answered by John LeggUpdated 17 Sep 2025
  • Can the Logger Operate Without External Power?
Yes. The internal 800mAh LiPo battery gives up to 7 hours of standalone operation. On USB power, recording time is unlimited, and the battery charges over the same USB connection.
Answered by John LeggUpdated 17 Sep 2025
  • Which Aaronia Antennas Are Compatible with Direct Mounting?
The logger mounts directly to the HyperLOG X, HyperLOG EMI and Magnotracker antenna series using the mounting hardware supplied. Universal mounting adapters let you fit it to other equipment with just two mounting holes.
